Ski Accessories
Ski accessories include everything besides the essential
gear of boots, skis, and poles and can be on or off slope. Good examples
are lip balm and sunscreen to protect the exposed parts of the skin
from the harsh rays of the sun and protecting lips from the dryness
common at high altitudes. UVA and UVB rays are much stronger at high
altitude and the snow increases that through constant reflection.
Other useful ski accessories are used before or after a long day of
skiing. Boot dryers are essential if planning to ski more than one day
in a row. There is nothing worse than cold, wet feet. These often have
special slots for gloves and socks as well, some of the easiest items
to get wet. Goggle cloths protect the finish on goggles which allow
the skier to see well and many double as a carrying case.
Ski accessories that are useful when riding include helmets, altimeter
watches, crash pads and teaching aides. Altimeter watches can track
much more than the altitude, they can tell the skier how many runs they
have done, how many vertical feet they have covered, and other useful
functions such as a timer, stop watch, and a regular clock. Sunglasses
are great on warm spring days or for just chilling at the après
ski bar.
