Ski Equipment
Ski equipment is designed almost solely for the purpose
of improving and comfort and control of the skier. The skis are becoming
easier and easier to learn how to ride on and there are many different
models for specific conditions and riding styles. Bindings are increasingly
safe and responsive on the ski, with many new models integrating a floating
binding on the ski. The only piece that hasn’t changed are the
poles.
The rest of the ski equipment is worn by the skier and includes all
their clothing plus a good pair of ski boots. Ski boots are one of the
most important pieces of equipment. They transfer all the energy from
the skier through their feet and into the boots which in turn transfer
that energy to the skis through the bindings. If the boot doesn’t
fit well it cannot effectively transfer that energy and will make skiing
almost impossible.
Other parts of ski equipment are additional accessories that are typically
designed for comfort in cold weather. Items such as hats and goggles
are absolutely necessary even on the calmest days of the year and improve
vision as well as protecting the eyes. Gloves can either be full fingered
or mittens which are both very warm although mittens may be too warm
for spring days. Neck gaiters are especially useful on snowy and especially
cold days.
